RELIGIOUS HARMONY: A Realistic Dream

George Bush wisely said, “In crucial things, unity. In important things, diversity. In ALL things, generosity.”

We all have heard about both Hindu and Muslim harmony and differences. They exist because some people of a particular religion think that some things are being performed which are against their religion. Like arguments go on about eating meat. I believe that humans, animals and plants are like they belong to the upper class, middle class and the lower class respectively. You know, nobody eats humans. Well some people eat animals and animal products. But you can hardly find anyone who doesn’t eat plants. If we see, humans are being treated as if they belong to the upper class, animals of middle class and plants of lower class. We cannot live without the people who are termed as of the lower class because of the help they provide in every field of work. Just like plants give us oxygen without which we cannot survive. I think Hindu and Muslims are like siblings. They argue with each other a lot but when it comes to a problem effecting everyone, like war or a pandemic, they stand up for each other. There is actually only one God that is the creator, it’s just we humans believe in different forms of God. It’s the same way as, if Earth was attacked by aliens (if they exist) or a meteor, the world would become united and face the problem together. Even now, since the pandemic has occurred, developed countries are trying to help developing and under developed countries. Some people in the name of religion tell other people of the community that they are being violated and encourage them to fight for it violently. People choose the wrong path. But we should understand their point of view and show them the right path as there is some goodness inside each person even the one who has chosen the wrong path. We just need to help them find it. I think a community government should be made in India like the one in Belgium, so that these issues can be resolved. There should be meetings every month and representatives of each religion who are aware, educated and respected in the community should discuss and peacefully take decisions so that there can be a mutual understanding. There is no good in violence as it causes injuries and deaths. We all are a one big family. We all are made up of a basic unit known as a cell. You know, there is 60% similarity between a human being and a fruit fly as per the research. All organisms can said to be relatives.

Diversity is creativity. People should stop criticizing other religions. Instead of complaining we should know how to live our life. We should look for a happy ending. India is a democratic nation and people are allowed to express their views. Leaders and the Government should listen to the problems of the people and try to solve them. They should gain people’s trust by the art of listening. Don’t let negative thoughts enter. One who does not make mistakes never learns. But the mistakes which have been made should not be made again. Forget what happened in the past, it’s never too late. During the struggle to get our independence, everyone in the country were together. So many attempts were made so that princely states and other small territories join India because they knew that where there is unity there is always victory. India is the most diverse nation yet united. There is no harm in practicing your religion but you should not force someone in believing in your religion. Whether it is a festival of Hindus or of Muslims, celebrate together. Either you say ‘namaste’ or ‘salaam alaikum’ it means the same. But if everyone is together it will spread happiness. So, for the sake of humanity let’s start living in the present and help others. Start a new journey of your life. Start respecting others. You need to start seeing the beauty in things around you and not the defects. Baha’U’Llah wisely said, “So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.” The best way to avoid these misunderstandings amongst people is by educating them especially the children.

Children are the future leaders. They should be surrounded by good thoughts. Without good foundations, no building can stand the test of time, stands good even for us humans. If they know the importance of maintaining peace then the problem will eventually be solved. These values can be taught by giving examples of schools and colleges where people belonging to various religions come together to gain knowledge. This is the place where new ideas develop in their pure minds which can influence them. Let’s make life better. Let’s come together and stand up for each other no matter what situations come across. Let’s make the dreams of Gandhi ji and other people who believed in unity and religious harmony come true. And the people who say that it is impossible, let’s prove them wrong by making the word an ideal place to live in.
