It's not a Guessing Game!
Hey! I know some people with a problem that no one can pronounce their name correctly. Ask me, I am one of them. I don't get it, what's wrong with these people. So, as you know my name is Reya, actually it's of Spanish origin. I mean whenever it's the first day of school & the teacher is taking the attendance, I am totally ready. If the teacher says 'Riya', 'Rhea', 'Raya' or anything that's weird for a name, I just wait for a second if no one answers I come to know that it's my name for the rest of the year according to that teacher. It's not that I don't correct them. I can correct people for about 10 to 15 times & then I just loose it. When this starts annoying me even more, I just give up & then I don't care what they call me. The thing is that it's really difficult to correct elders. I mean you have to be patient & in your best behavior but when you come to know that they are not willing to even try, you can't help it. I mean in school there are 2 types of teachers. One who at least try & by the end of the year they finally get your name. These teachers are everyone's favourite. The other ones are like,'We are correct, your parents must have mispelled your name.' And when you keep on correcting them they say, 'It's one & the same'. But unfortunately for us, it's definitely not. Then what they give you is 'I don't care a damn' face. This really annoys me. You know sometimes people pronounce your name incorrectly I don't know how many times that even you are not sure if you're pronouncing it correctly. But this really isn't the case with your classmates or friends or anyone your age. They either pronounce your name correctly or give you a nickname. Some people try to convince you that you are pronouncing your name incorrectly. This happened with me once, I was around 7 years old. I was in 3rd standard & my Half Yearly exams just got over. After that, when the result was out, I was shown the answer sheet. There was a letter writing question in hindi, & in the last I saw that my teacher has circled my name with red pen and deducted my marks. She said that I had put the wrong matra. My hindi teacher said that there is no such word. I came home & told my mother that she and dad have kept a name that doesn't exist. Then I checked on internet & then I finally trusted my parents again. Then my mother had to go & explain(also fight a bit) and finally my teacher was convinced that I had written my name correctly and gave me marks that I deserved. Recently I got to know that there is a thriller movie titled 'Reya', still no one can pronounce my name correctly.
There are times when you meet people your parents know & you know they aren't going to meet you again, still they amuse you by trying to get to know your name. They keep going on & on- 'Riya', 'Raya', 'Neha', and so on. I mean when the starting letter is same, you think they are still sensible. But after they change each & every letter of your name & still try, it's painful. At these times, what normally I do is look at my parents and give them an 'I am out of here, anyways they are your friends & you gave me that name, so deal with it' face. Sometimes this game becomes pretty annoying but I still love my name & parents as I don't have a common name & don't have to share it with any of my friends or classmates.
Sometimes this game is also good for entertainment as you can come to know the level of patience you & the other person has. Also, the way people react when they get tired of somebody. If you want to get rid of some person whom you are not at all fond of, this game can come really handy. So, having a peculiar name has advantages & disadvantages of it's own so just learn to deal with it.
This is what happens when you try to correct people especially your teachers.
Hahahhahaa good one ๐
